Umgami Wami Benefit for Tariro

Umgami Wami

Every year in September Lola Broomberg and Chef Juke, host a barbecue dinner for 200 friends and supporters that brings together good food, live music and a fabulous silent auction. All money generated by this “Umgami Wami” event (Umgami wami means “friend” in Ndebele) is used to support Tariro, a 501 © 3 organization that provides educational support to young women that are AIDS orphans living in Zimbabwe.

In Zimbabwe’s Shona language, Tariro means Hope. The Eugene-based nonprofit organization, Tariro, helps to educate and support Zimbabwean girls orphaned by AIDS. Tariro currently sponsors over 50 girls in Zimbabwe. You can learn more about this organization and its work at http://tariro.org

The Umgami Wami event offers a barbecue dinner, with pulled pork or vegetarian sandwiches, two sides, and Sweet Life dessert. Dinner plates run from  $10-25 per person (sliding scale), $8 for kids We  have live music by  Scotty Perey and the kids from Imagine That and youth marimba players from Kutsinhira Cultural Arts Center. The dinner also includes an extraordinary silent auction, of products and services provided by many local artists and  businesses.

The Tariro Benefit will feature a silent auction with an amazing array of goods and services from local vendors and artisans. Haircuts. Massages. Art, Gardening Supplies, and more. So if you got a shopping buzz going… you might want to check this out.

All Donations will be handled through the auspices of Tariro, a registered non-profit 501(c)3 organization.
